In September 2009, Rong WANG, then Acting Shenzhen Mayor, appointed Academician Qingshi ZHU as the inaugural SUSTech President.
In February 2010, SUSTech moved to its temporary campus and developed its initial governance structure.
In September 2010, the first phase of the permanent SUSTech campus construction project broke ground.
In December 2010, the Admission Information Sessions were held.
In March 2011, the first batch of students was admitted.
In July 2011, the board of trustees was established.
In December 2011, the SUSTech Education Foundation was established.
In May 2012, SUSTech enrolled students under its "6+3+1" comprehensive admissions evaluation model for the first time.
In September 2012, SUSTech held its founding and 2012 convocation ceremony.
In September 2013, the permanent SUSTech campus was officially opened.
In October 2013, the SUSTech University Council was established.

In June 2016, the International Center for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO was unveiled at SUSTech.
In March 2017, the first party congress of the SUSTech CPC was held.
In October 2017, 14 current and former university leaders formed SUSTech's International Advisory Council (IAC).
In November 2017, Professor Tang Tao, then SUSTech vice president, became the first CAS academician cultivated by Shenzhen.
In September 2018, Tan Bin's team from the Department of Chemistry published the first article in Science that was completed at SUSTech as the first communication unit.
In October 2018, Shenzhen People's Hospital and Shenzhen Third People's Hospital became directly affiliated hospitals of SUSTech.
In November 2018, the SUSTech Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center (CryoEM Center) was launched.
In January 2019, the Centers for Mechanical Engineering Research and Education at MIT and SUSTech were inaugurated.
In February 2019, the SUSTech International Center for Mathematics was officially launched.
In June 2019, SUSTech and King's College London signed an agreement to work towards establishing a joint medical school.
In September 2019, SUSTech's first batch of master students and doctoral students, and the first international graduate students enrolled.
In February 2020, the team of Associate Professor Dazhi SUN developed anti-fog alcohol wipes and anti-fog alcohol sprays to aid against the novel coronavirus epidemic.
In March 2020, SUSTech and the Shenzhen National Infectious Diseases Clinical Medicine Research Center discovered the molecular structure of the novel coronavirus for the first time.
