Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) recently released the QS Top 50 Under 50 2021 rankings and the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) entered them for the first time, ranking 36 in the world, 1st in mainland China and also being the only mainland Chinese institution included in the top 50.

First published in 2012, the QS Top 50 Under 50 ranks the best universities in the world which are under 50 years old, allowing some of the world’s top young universities to shine. Since 2015, it has tripled its range to include the next 100 Under 50.

The QS Top 50 Under 50 ranks universities on key indicators including Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations per Faculty, Faculty/Student Ratio, International Faculty Ratio, and International Student Ratio.

As a young university celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, SUSTech has been listed in several important world rankings. Times Higher Education (THE) ranked SUSTech 8th in mainland China and 33rd in Asia in THE’s Asia University Rankings 2020. THE also selected SUSTech among the top 50 best young universities in the world, maintaining its position as the best young university in mainland China. The QS World University Rankings 2021 ranked SUSTech 14th in mainland China and 323rd in the world on debut.

This year represents a new decade of progress for SUSTech. It will continue to build a world-class research university that supports Shenzhen’s development as a pioneering demonstration zone and the industrial transformation of the Greater Bay Area.
