New buildings launched at SUSTech campus

On October 28, the opening ceremony of SUSTech University Center, Administration Building 1, School of Humanities and Social Sciences and SUSTech Convention Center was held.

Vice President Chun LU hosted the ceremony. He was joined by SUSTech University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO, President Shiyi CHEN, Secretary of the Party Group and Deputy Director of Shenzhen Municipal Construction Affairs Bureau Liang YAO, and other senior officials from both SUSTech and construction and design companies.

Chairperson Yurong GUO announced the launching of the building.

Chairman of Shenzhen Fuguang Industrial Co., Ltd., former head of Fuguang village Xuhong XIE and some residents of Fuguang new village were also invited to attend the event.

In 2008, under Shenzhen’s urban deployment, Fuguang village was relocated as the central part of the campus of SUSTech. Tianliao and Changyuan villages were involved in the relocation and reconstruction.

To thank the residents for their contributions to the construction of SUSTech, they were invited to attend the event to share the University’s development’s joy.

As part of the ceremony, the naming proposal of the University’s parks, lakes, mountains, squares, roads, and bridges was also announced. These names indicate the original aspiration and dream of building SUSTech into a world-class university.

The villagers’ representatives brought folk activities and lion dance performances to close the ceremony and expressed the joy of a happy life and blessing to SUSTech.

SUSTech University Center has a total construction area of about 30,000 square meters. It is a multi-functional center combining a catering center, reading center, and activity center. Most of the buildings are orangey-red, and the green corridor is interspersed and stitched within.

Administration Building 1 and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, with a total construction area of about 14,000 square meters, are the campus’s cultural core.

SUSTech Convention Center covers an area of about 17,900 square meters. It has a conference hall of 800 people, a multi-functional theater of 600 people, and a circular conference hall of 200 people. The building is also the location of the UNESCO Higher Education Innovation Center (Shenzhen, China).
