In order to promote the innovation and development of education, under the guidance of the people’s daily and with the academic support of the China Association of Higher Education, people.cn, together with the Education Department of Guangdong Province, the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the Shenzhen Municipal People’s government cost-hosted the 2020 University Presidents Forum in Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) on December 19. The theme of this forum is “Striving for the 14th Five-Year Plan targets, Education for a New Era: Achieving a High Quality Education Development in China”.
More than 60 university leaders from all over the country exchanged their opinions on four topics: promoting the construction of university science and technology innovation system and innovation capacity, how to implement the fundamental task of cultivating talents, improving the strategic level of regional development of colleges and universities, and the innovation and development of new research-oriented universities. The purpose is to promote the construction of a high-quality education system in the “14th Five-Year Plan”.
Qikun XUE, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and SUSTech President, proposed that as, educators must answer the new propositions given by the times, and seize new opportunities in the construction of new development pattern following these principles. First, firmly keep pace with the new era; second, cultivate talents with international competitiveness; third, strengthen basic research in the future; fourth, improve the development of service regions.
As a national large-scale annual education forum, the People’s Daily Online University Presidents Forum has been successfully held seven times. More than 400 university presidents gathered together to focus on hot issues such as university development, personnel training, enrollment system reform, and internationalization of universities. They exchanged experiences and ideas with fruitful outputs.
