Miao Jiang received Ph.D degree in Liquid Crystal Institute from the Kent State University in December 2018. Before returning to China,he co-developed a plasmonic photopatterning technique based on rectangular nano-apertures, which allows for two-dimensional arbitrary liquid crystal alignment with ultra-high sub-micrometer resolution and high throughput. He applied this plasmonic photopatterning technique in fabrication of micro-scale Pancharatnam-Berry lenses and demonstrated micro-lenses with diffraction-limit quality and f-number as low as 2. He also exhibited large scale micro-lens arrays, which have potential applications in laser television and augmented reality.

From 2018 to 2020, In TCL CSOT, His research mainly focused on integrated sensors for liquid crystal display panels. With currently rapid development of 5G and the Internet of Things, it is vital important for televisions to increase their interaction capabilities in order to compete for ports of the Internet of Things. Cell phone uses touch-screen technique for interaction, which is also rapidly developed in televisions recently. However, touch-screen technique is not preferable for televisions with growing screen sizes and viewing distances. I proposed to use light spot from laser pen for interaction with televisions based on the light-sensing properties of amorphous silicon, similar to the positioning and operation of computer screen with a mouse. This brand-new operation mode is very suitable for long-distance and high-precision control, thus promising smart screens of televisions. The 32-inch prototype of this proposal has been produced, and larger size televisions with this technique is expected to appear on International Consumer Electronics 2021, Show as signature technique of TCL CSOT

Now, he works in Prof. Qi-Huo Wei’s team. His research focus on liquid crystal optics.
