Zhe Dong obtained his B.S. from College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University in 2012 under guidance of Prof Zhi-Xiang Yu. He joint Prof. Guangbin Dong’s group in 2012 at University of Texas at Austin. He moved to Uchicago in 2016 with whole Prof. Guangbin Dong’s group and obtained his PHD degree from the University of Chicago in 2018. Then, he joined the Prof. David MacMillan group at Princeton University since 2018. He joins the Southern University of Science and Technology Chemistry Department in 2021 as a tenure-track associate professor
Dr. Zhe Dong’s PHD work focused on the development of palladium and norbornene catalyzed novel multi-components cross coupling and meta-selective arene C-H bond activation. He developed a practical and novel deoxygenative arylation of alcohols during his postdoc. These works got lots of attention in the synthetic community and get widely adopted by pharmaceutical industry. He published 9 first or corresponding author papers before join SUSTech, with total citation higher than 1500 times. His independent research will focus on the photoredox enabled organoboron chemistry and heterocycle functionalization and applying those synthetic tool into medicinal chemistry and photo-biochemistry to generate real world application.
Zhe Dong received several awards including: Scholarship for Outstanding Self-financed Students Studying Abroad, China Scholarship Council. 2015; Reaxys PhD Prize Finalists. 2017; Yang Cao-Lan-Xian Best Thesis Award, University of Chicago. 2018 and Oversea Young Investigator Award. 2020.
