Biography
Major in deep-sea geology/geochemistry and made a series of pioneering/innovative achievements and findings in deepsea for over 30 years. Served as chief or co-chief scientist in more than 10 national and international scientific cruises. was the first scientist to dive with China's HOV 7000m "Jiaolong" and as chief scientist to lead China's first basic research program (973) project in deep-sea. To date, published over 230 papers independently or in collaboration with others, with more than 90 papers published in SCI-indexed journals such as "Nature," "Nature Geoscience," "PNAS," and "Geology." Edited and Published 3 Chinese books and co-authored one published English monograph by the International Seabed Authority.
Current Main Research Interests:
1. Geological/geochemical studies of oceanic crust/mantle and their application to understand deep-time planet tectonics.
2. Enrichment Mechanisms of Metals (Fe, Mn and P etc.) in deepsea and their significance for Paleoceanography
3. In-situ real-time observation in deep sea and the integration with evolved geologic past.

July 1988 to May 1991: Postdoctorate in the Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
June 1991 to February 2002: Senior Scientist, Deputy Director, and Director of the Marine Chemistry Department in the Second Institute of Oceanography, State Oceanic Administration.
January 1992 to July 1993: Visiting Researcher at RWTH Aachen University, Germany, funded by the Humboldt Foundation.
November 1995 to October 1996: Visiting Scholar at the University of Hamburg and the Institute for Marine and Polar Research, Germany, funded by the German Government.
February 2002 to August 2008: Senior scietist and Deputy Director of the Extreme Environment Research Department in the Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
August 2008 to June 2023: Distinguished Professor, and Tenured Professor in the School of Ocean and Earth Science / State Key Laboratory of Marine Geology, Tongji University.
July 2023 to Present: Chair Professor in the Department of Marine Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology.
